Smart Exploration 2: The Full Aperture - For 10th Graders - College Seniors
This service includes the Strong Interest Inventory assessment and the Highlands Ability Battery, four 1:1 meetings with a Strong & Highlands Ability expert and educational consultant, and a written summary of findings and next steps.
The Highlands Ability Battery measures natural abilities: the cognitive strengths a person is born with. Developed by The Highlands Company, it is used by career consultants, universities, and organizations worldwide. Unlike interest inventories or personality tests, the Highlands uses timed exercises to measure actual performance across nineteen areas, including memory, reasoning, and verbal ability. The results identify which kinds of tasks come quickly and effortlessly and which require more effort. A student may be drawn to a field but not yet aware of whether their natural abilities support it; or they may discover strengths they have never had a name for. When used together, the Strong and the Highlands provide a significantly more complete picture. Interests tell you what draws a student in. Abilities tell you where they are naturally equipped to do the work well.
The Strong Interest Inventory is one of the most widely used career interest assessments in the world. First developed by psychologist E.K. Strong Jr. in 1927, it has been continuously refined over nearly a century of research and is now published by The Myers-Briggs Company. It has been taken by millions of people and is used by universities, career centers, and counselors worldwide. The Strong does not measure intelligence or ability. It identifies what a person genuinely enjoys: the subjects, activities, and environments they are naturally drawn to. Those results are matched to college majors and occupations where people with similar interest patterns tend to find satisfaction and success.
Through this exploration, the person completing the assessment and exploration will gain:
· A clear understanding of both their interests and their natural abilities
· Both Strong and Highlands reports • Insight into how their strengths and interests work together
· A personalized shortlist of majors and careers that fit across both dimensions
· A written Whole-Person Summary prepared by the consultant
