Team Smart

When we started Smart College Selection, we had no idea of the tremendous demand there would be for full-time, comprehensive, informed, and caring guidance through the college selection process. Because of this, we are carefully and slowly bringing on consultants to be able to serve more students and parents.

When you work with us, you have the benefit of our combined expertise, funneled through a single point of contact – your individual Smart College Selection Consultant. Between us, we have 149 years of experience in higher education, college admissions, counseling, teaching, instructional design, and social work. We collaborate on student college lists, co-teach our application workshops, and provide important ‘second looks’ to student essays. We meet weekly as a team, discussing individual students’ needs, advancing our collective knowledge, and brainstorming even better ways to support Smart families. We think this approach provides the best of both worlds – individualized support backed up by the resources and ideas of a team of professionals.

Between us, we have 11 college degrees, three dogs, and 15 children ranging from a baby to a 35-year-old. We’ve lived in seven countries and 30 states. Among our own children, we have artists (opera, play dough, piano), teachers, financiers, students with learning differences, linguists, doctors, goofballs, engineers, college athletes, neurodiverse students, scholars, and several who love a karaoke party. Our own children have helped us see the possibilities, understand the challenges, and celebrate the successes. They make us better consultants, both to the students and to the parents we support.
